Christine’s White Rock B&B Interview

Below is a feature interview from March 2011 with White Rock Bed and Breakfast owner operators Ralph and Christine.

Ask Ralph and Christine what makes their Bed and Breakfast Inn so special, and they’ll tell you it’s the people who have been coming back year after year that make this one of the most popular guest houses in British Columbia. Named after the lady of the house, Christine’s B&B has attracted repeat visitors from as far away as Winnipeg, Michigan and even Ireland for each of the four years since the house was built.

Christines-B-and-BAs well as the unrivalled best weather in BC, which, Ralph assured us, offers more sunshine days per year than any place else in Canada, he also says the town itself is a fantastic draw for people who just want a quiet, relaxing break. There’s plenty to do, too, with a wide variety of golf courses in the area that are open for business twelve months of the year, as well as a plethera of gift shops, boutiques and a beautiful waterfront promenade. “Sunsets are a big favorite around here, too,” Ralph advised us; he explained how, when the tide is out, people can walk out a quarter of a mile to get the best views. The local train station has also been turned into a rail museum, and there are sailing lessons to be had for the more adventurous.

white-rock-b-and-bChristine’s BnB prides itself on excellent value and a superb breakfast menu that Christine tries to vary on a daily basis. There are two queen/double rooms and one king/double on the main level of the house, available for just CAN$124 per couple, per night, including all taxes, fees, and a home cooked breakfast. Ralph also asked us to mention the wide range of discounts they offer for extended stays, starting at a 5% discount for those staying three or four nights, 10% for five to six nights, and at least a 15% discount for seven nights or more. On the ground floor of Christine’s is a magnificent two-bed, two-bath suite, complete with kitchen area, living room, laundry room, plus an extra futon bed that effectively gives sleeping space for up to six people. ip info . Prices for this accommodation start at CAN$225 per night, not including breakfast, but Ralph again stressed the generous discounts on offer. Stays of seven nights or more are eligible for a full 30% off, bringing the price all the way down to just CAN$157 per night, including all taxes and charges.

Christine’s breakfasts generally start with fresh yoghurt or fruit parfait, before moving onto whatever egg dish is required. Throw in pancakes, French toast or homemade cinammon roll, and it’s a safe bet every visitor will be ready to go out and enjoy the delights of White Rock. If you’re in the area, give Christine and Ralph a call, or check out their website at www.christinesbb.com They’d love to meet you–again and again and again!
